This gorgeous boutique hotel situated right in the heart of Paris mixes contemporary design with Japanese influences to create a relaxing and calming haven for visitors to the fast paced city. Attention to detail is the key word here, with carefully laid out books in the small library/chess room, entirely French products in the bar and Feng Chui energy in the bathrooms. Designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte - a reputed French architect and designer who believes in the pursuit of "elegance, proportion, comfort and refinement." The hotel's clientele comprises primarily couples searching for a touch of luxury and originality, as well as business guests wanting a change from the standard chain hotel.

    Location 9.53 /10

Hotel de Nell is situated right in the centre of Paris just a three-minute walk from the bustling and lively Grands Boulevards. As such, guests will never be short of places to eat and drink if they want to stay local, and for those who fancy venturing further afield, the metro stations 'Grands Boulevards' and 'Bonne Nouvelle' are just a short walk away. Being close to lively areas such as these often equates to an awful night's sleep in Paris; the great thing about Hotel de Nell however, is that it is ideally placed on a quiet side street with little through traffic - especially during the night.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

The rather minimalist rooms of Hotel de Nell have more of an emphasis on energy and attention to the small details than an extravagant contemporary design. As such, all storage spaces are incorporated into the structure of the room and remain relatively out of sight. Wilmotte's taste for neutral and soothing colours becomes apparent here with the majority of the rooms opting for sand and dark blue coloured walls and ceiling, light brown wood for desks and cupboards and taupe rugs. This ensemble contributes to the feeling of calmness and serenity mentioned above, yet the real pièce de résistance is the bathrooms. To create this space of relaxation, huge marble blocks were delivered to the hotel, which were then chiseled and shaped on site to form the beautiful bathtubs we now see today. The Feng Shui influence becomes clear here, as all bathrooms have large windows for the inflow and outflux of energy, and the whole space is open to prevent energy blockages. All rooms are equipped with standard amenities expected by the modern traveller including minibars and air conditioning, as well as nice additional touches such as iPod docks. For any fussy sleepers, the hotel also offers 'pillows à la carte' - a choice of four pillows including goose feather and synthetic - which are available on request.

    Overview 8.20 /10

The main entrance to the hotel takes guests though a large glass and iron door in typical Parisian style and then through a second set of highly polished glass doors (so highly polished in fact, that we didn't see them and walked straight into them!) onto the reception area which comprises a large wooden desk and complimentary welcome pastries. Leading off from the left is the bar, which serves breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks throughout the day. This area includes a lovely conservatory style lounge with cream marble tables, dark wooden benches and large mirrors giving the impression of space and making the room seem a lot larger than it actually is. On the lower ground floor, guests will find a massage suite open seven days a week with a range of massages and beauty treatments available to reserve in advance.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

Hotel de Nell has two main spaces for eating and drinking: the bar and the restaurant (also known as La Régalade). The bar, as mentioned above, is convenient because it has two areas which seem to reflect different moods. Directly in front of the serving bar is a relatively dark seating area giving off a warm and cosy atmosphere, yet just through the archways at the side of this room is a light and airy conservatory style lounge which has a slightly more summery feel. This space is relatively small however, so we did question how all the guests would find a space in here at breakfast time when the hotel is full. The restaurant offers bistro style food with a reasonably priced menu at 35 euros for a starter, main and dessert. The kitchen is the domain of reputed chef Bruno Doucet, who has worked with culinary masters such as Pierre Gagnaire and Charles Barrier.

    To know

The hotel is actually composed of two buildings - one which was formerly a two star hotel and another which was an apartment block . These buildings were joined and completely renovated before the hotel opened its doors on Thursday 14 February 2013. Whilst the façade has been cleaned and updated, the large intricately shaped iron entrance door is the original - adding a little Parisian charm to the building. The hotel director wanting to support local French products and businesses through his hotel, all alcohols in the bar are of French origin (of course, guests who insist on another brand will be catered for by the amicable staff) and the wooden panels in the breakfast room were purchased from a local Parisian building site, further promoting local work.

This is a hotel full of French style in which no copies or reproductions will be tolerated. The Bristol is one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that belongs to a European family (German) rather than one of the great families of Asia or the United Arab Emirates. Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
