The building this hotel occupies dates from the 19th century and has previously served as a guesthouse and another hotel. French investors purchased this, at the time, 3-star hotel in 2008. After two years of renovations, the 5-star Burgundy hotel opened in summer 2010. The name was preserved but no one really knows where it came from (for example, Burgundy in French is Bourgogne). A quick little anecdote regarding the hotel; this is where Baudelaire's parents sold his furniture when he died in 1867. That's why you will find various references to the author of 'The Flowers of Evil' here and there in the hotel, notably in some of the cocktails: Spleen, les Fleurs de Mal, etc., but also in a few works of art exhibited in the establishment, some of which really bring the melancholic poet to mind. It's true that the owners have a very particular fondness for art and therefore throughout the hotel you will discover paintings, sculptures and other works of art.
The small and discreet reception is immediately on your right when you enter. On the other side of the entrance you will find a cosy and friendly-sized bar (Le Baudelaire) where cognac is the star of show and is highlighted in various formats: cocktails, beautiful bottles, etc. It is possible to taste the different cognacs if you like and choose which one from the more than 50 different kinds will be used in your cocktail. Our recommendation, the mojito with cognac is excellent. The hotel even has its own cognac, Le Burgundy.
Skylights and a winter garden lead the way to the restaurant. It holds a grand piano and pastries are served here at tea time.
The modern but cosy decor creates a sort of feeling of tranquillity. Shades of brown, black, beige and grey are very present. This gives it an elegant and luxurious aspect.
A spa in the basement opens onto a beautiful heated swimming pool in which you can swim a few lengths. A hammam, sauna or whirlpool bath will be just the thing you need after a day exploring the City of Light. You may also want to take advantage of the massages and treatments offered. Small but charming, the spa and its swimming pool will delight all those looking to relax in a peaceful setting.
