    Location 7.8 /10

The Hôtel Saint-Jacques stands in one of the most pleasant parts of the city centre, in a young, dynamic area which oozes bohemian charm, not least due to the many students attending the various schools and universities in the area, which is also steeped in history. There are a selection of bars, historic cafes, relaxed pubs and restaurants on the Rue de la Montagne Sainte-Geneviève and the Rue Mouffetard, as well as around the Place Saint-Michel, to the north. What's more, some of the most impressive monuments for which Paris is renowned, including the Panthéon, Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum, for example, are just a few hundred metres away, whilst a pleasant stroll through Châtelet or along the Rue de Rivoli will take you to the very centre of the city. If you do like a stroll, head to the sprawling green Jardin du Luxembourg, just a few streets away. As far as public transport is concerned, lines 7 and 10 of the city's metro system stop almost right outside the hotel and can be used to get to the Louvre or the Opéra, for example.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

This relatively small hotel has 36 guest rooms, all decorated to reflect a different theme so no two rooms are the same, though they are generally done out in a very stylish retro-romantic style. The cheapest rooms are those in the attic space on the top floor, which are not served by the lift and are smaller than the others, which only adds to their charm. As you might expect, the views from these rooms are truly breath-taking. The remaining rooms come in 3 categories, namely Double, Single, Triple and Large Deluxe Double. Many of the rooms are decorated in the Impressionist style, complete with large paintings painted directly onto the walls depicting rural landscapes and portraits, whilst the walls themselves are painted in shades of blue, beige, salmon and yellow. Add to this the mouldings, period furniture, antique light fittings and chandeliers and four-poster beds and you'll see that the surroundings here are beautifully noble and highly elegant. It is also worth noting that there are four superb rooms which are far more modern than the others and done out in brighter, more contemporary colours, taking the retro ambience and making it smart and trendy. Indeed, one of these rooms even features furniture recovered from the Carlton, whilst another is a duplex room, with the bathroom downstairs and a beautiful staircase leading up to the bedroom upstairs. The bathrooms are as varied in terms of style and decor as the guest rooms themselves, though all are very tastefully done. Amenities include free Wi-Fi in all rooms, a selection of international TV channels available and the possibility of using the laptop computer provided in the reception lounge.

    Overview 7.45 /10

The Saint-Jacques is housed in an old, fine-looking building on the corner of the street, which is a highly important factor. The 2nd and 5th floors are surrounded by large balconies furnished with tables and chairs, perfect for enjoying a drink of an evening, or maybe even breakfast. Those staying in the rooms on the higher floors will enjoy superb views across the rooftops of Paris, not to mention the towers of Notre-Dame, the Panthéon and the Tour Saint-Jacques. It would be an understatement to say that the decor here gives the hotel a very strong identity; indeed, it is characterised by its strongly felt and omnipresent Belle Epoque ambience. The entire premises exudes retro charm from all of its corridors and all of its walls. The result is a perfect and highly Romantic unity, complete with moulded walls, painted in tasteful imitation marble and stone, marble floors, painted chandeliers and ceilings and frescoes painted on the walls. The Toulouse-Lautrec lounge, located in the reception area, is the perfect place to relax with a glass of absinthe, whilst breakfast is served on the basement level, in a decidedly cabaret-style room complete with a large wall-painting from the 1920s depicting cancan dancers and an old-fashioned slot-in record player. The owner has also displayed a great many antique decorative objects around the hotel, and you might be interested to know that the hotel was used as the set for the film 'Charade', with actors Gary Grant and Audrey Hepburn treading its parquet floors and staircases.

Located in a building that dates from the late 19th century, this hotel, which opened its doors in 2001, is reminiscent of an English library with its leather chairs and checkered wallpaper. In the centre of the golden triangle of Paris universities, close to the prestigious College de France, the hotel seems to be a mandatory stop-off point for professors and people visiting the capital. The hotel's international clientele is very diverse and essentially consists of couples and families.

This is a hotel full of French style in which no copies or reproductions will be tolerated. The Bristol is one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that belongs to a European family (German) rather than one of the great families of Asia or the United Arab Emirates. Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
