A small, friendly hotel with Neo-Classical decor and just a dozen or so small but sophisticated guest rooms. The location of the hotel alongside the Place Saint-Michel is particularly handy for exploring an area that is not full of young people and students but which is also steeped in history. Its proximity to Notre-Dame is more or less solely responsible for attracting tourists to the hotel; although great emphasis is placed on the welcome guests receive here too.

    Location 9.05 /10

This little hotel stands in a truly wonderful part of the city, and you will undoubtedly be enthralled by the bohemian spirit that permeates the surrounding narrow streets. How can you not get lost and carried away by the throngs of people strolling through the maze of pedestrian streets at the heart of the Latin Quarter? The Villa D'estrées is situated in a part of the city which oozes character, in a village-like neighbourhood of ancient cobblestone alleyways. The hotel is at the intersection of the 5th, 6th and 1st arrondissements of Paris, meaning that it also enjoys the chic and trendy atmosphere of the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain des Prés, where young Parisians go for a lively and festive time. These ancient streets are lined with the most beautiful buildings, a real treat for the eyes as soon as you leave the hotel. What's more, some of the most impressive monuments for which Paris is renowned, including Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum and the Medieval Museum, for example, are just a few hundred metres away. The beautiful areas of the 5th and 6th arrondissements and the narrow streets surrounding the Panthéon can also be visited on foot, but if it's an invigorating stroll and some fresh air you're after, head for the avenues of the Jardin du Luxembourg. As for transport, line B of the RER connects both of Paris major airports, and lines 4 and 10 of the metro stop virtually right outside the hotel.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

First, to get the drawbacks out of the way; The 5 suites at the Villa d'Estrées are small and have no truly separate lounge area to speak of. They really are more like large bedrooms, albeit spacious and comfortable, than the suites you would generally expect of a 4-star establishment. Having said that, the decor is excellent, the level of comfort very high and the surroundings extremely well-kept. This little hotel has only ten guest rooms, all of which vary greatly, with the ambience and colour scheme changing from one room to the next, the only common feature being the striped carpets. Some of the rooms, which feature greyish-blue striped wallpaper, are a little drab, whereas others are much brighter, with busy fabrics making for warmer, more appealing and altogether very pleasant surroundings. One original feature of the hotel, however, is that the bathrooms are laid in dark zellige tiles from Morocco, adding an elegant and exotic touch. The guest rooms, which usually come fitted with a sofa, can also accommodate an additional bed for families. The decor in the rooms incorporates various pieces of art which the owner has picked up from antique dealers at flea markets, thus giving each room its own particular style. A breakfast of pastries and other fresh produce can be served in your room at no extra cost, and room service is available in conjunction with the Café Latin restaurant on the corner of the street, which belongs to the same owner. All of the rooms have free Wi-Fi.

    Overview 7.45 /10

A far cry from the common perception of large 4-star hotels, with their over-the-top service and luxurious, even ostentatious decor, the Villa d'Estrées is a small hotel which oozes charm, is discreet, intimate, low-key and elegant. Indeed, this is a small, down-to-earth establishment consisting of only 10 guest rooms, 5 double and 5 suites, a lobby, a large room at the entrance to the hotel, and no extravagant features such as spas, hammams or massage rooms. The quality you can expect from the Villa d'Estrées is evident in the welcome extended to the hotel's regular guests, who come here not only for its location, at the heart of historic Paris, but also for the peaceful, relaxing surroundings it offers. The hotel's showpiece has to be its lobby, notable for its Neo-Classical, Empire-inspired decor. It serves as both the reception area and a small lounge and also doubles up as the breakfast room, at the risk of unsettling certain guests, as this effectively means you end up sitting having breakfast among the comings and the goings of other guests. The owners, of course, claim this is all in the name of proximity and friendliness, and it certainly gives guests the opportunity to chat with hotel employees who will be more than happy to provide advice about where to go and what to do in the capital. As an added delight, the decor has been carefully selected, with beautiful stripy sofas surrounding low dark wood tables. A lot of the woodwork is dark and the ground is covered in old black and white floor-tiles that add a lot of class to the only communal area of the hotel.

    To know

You might be interested to know that the quirky name of the street on which the hotel stands, the Rue Gît le Coeur, is said to date back to the days of Henri IV, when his mistress lived here and he used to run up and down the street shouting 'ici gît mon cœur' ('here lies my heart!').

The hotel is tucked away in a tiny alley of Rue Dauphine, in the heart of the sixth arrondissement of Paris. The Christine is a charming establishment found in a surprising former palace set in a flower-filled courtyard. The special charm of this hotel is apparent as soon as one walks in: it occupies a part of the former 13th century 'Grands Augustins' convent and the first impression one gets is of being surrounded by ancient stonework before being immersed in the soft tones of the reception area. With its 'Nouvel Empire' style, the hotel is very popular among Americans staying in the capital. It is suitable for families and couples.

The first thing that springs to mind when describing the Best Western Saint-Michel is its very central location. It stands opposite the famous fountain in the city's Latin Quarter, a historic meeting place for Parisian students, among others, and is part of the Best Western chain's 'Premier' collection, so you're guaranteed high-quality service here. It certainly does what it says on the tin, too, offering pleasant yet rather unoriginal guest rooms. The Royal Saint-Michel is also ideally-located for those visiting Paris for the first (or even the second, third...) time, particularly if you are prepared to pay a little more without stretching as far as the prices charged by other hotels in this part of the city.

The Bristol is one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that belongs to a European family (German) rather than one of the great families of Asia or the United Arab Emirates. Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
