Located in a building that dates from the late 19th century, this hotel, which opened its doors in 2001, is reminiscent of an English library with its leather chairs and checkered wallpaper. In the centre of the golden triangle of Paris universities, close to the prestigious College de France, the hotel seems to be a mandatory stop-off point for professors and people visiting the capital. The hotel's international clientele is very diverse and essentially consists of couples and families.

    Location 7.9 /10

The hotel is located next to the Rue des Ecoles, 5 minutes from the Cluny La Sorbonne metro station (line 10). To get to the airport, take the RER from one of the two nearest stations, Saint-Michel or Luxembourg, which are a little bit over a 10 minute walk away. In Saint-Michel, you can also take the RER C line to visit the Château de Versailles. Just a few minute's walk brings you to the Seine and Notre Dame cathedral.

    Accommodation 6.20 /10

The hotel has 59 guest rooms divided into 3 categories: classic, superior, and deluxe. Located in two buildings connected by an overpass above the courtyard, the rooms are all different in terms of decor and colours, but the same in theme. In an atmosphere reminiscent of a 1920s library, the lighting is subdued, partly because the rooms overlooking the street and the courtyard are not very bright.
The classic rooms seem small but they are an average size for this category. The hotel has been decorated throughout with dark wood and heavy fabrics. Every storey has a different colour scheme: green has been selected for the 2nd floor, pink for the 4th, red for the 5th and so on. The ensemble, while not a disaster, is not convincing: a damaged corner here, an old bedspread there, these are small details that matter for a hotel in this category.

    Overview 7.20 /10

The hotel was opened in 2001 and occupies a late 19th century building. Perhaps because of its proximity to the Paris universities, or because of its international clientele, the Villa Pantheon offers a slightly retro style with its lounge that resembles a 1920s library or American bar and its Scottish fabrics. This effect, different from the neo-classic and clean lines of some hotels, may have its own admirers.

When you enter the hotel, the first thing you see is the American bar with its high stools and large window overlooking the street, providing rather dim lighting. The reception is on the right hand side, where a few sofas provide a lounge area. The dark wood and uniformed staff set the tone.

    Food and drink 6.20 /10

The breakfast room is in the basement. Open from 7:30am to 10:30am on weekdays and until 11:00am on weekends, it serves a copious American buffet breakfast - more like a brunch in fact - with sweet and savoury dishes, fresh fruit juices, and croissants.

The decor is 1920s style, in keeping with the rest of the hotel, with a hideous green carpet, red chairs, and white tablecloths. In fact, the result would be much better if the room was not in the basement and if the walls were not painted in dark colours, elements that help to create a rather claustrophobic atmosphere, even for those who do not normally suffer from the disorder.

The hotel has no restaurant but the area is full of places to eat and the reception staff will gladly give you their recommendations.

    To know

Prior to becoming a hotel, for 50 years the Villa Pantheon served as a residence for Moroccan students. It was sold off and now belongs to the Les Hotels de Paris group, which has 24 hotels in the capital.

This is a hotel full of French style in which no copies or reproductions will be tolerated. The Bristol is one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that belongs to a European family (German) rather than one of the great families of Asia or the United Arab Emirates. Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
