Now we're off to higher ground to discover a fairly recent feature that you've probably never heard of: The Edge. It's a triangular platform jutting into the sky on the very top floors of the 30 Hudson Yards skyscraper, the 6th tallest building in New York. It's one of the most fabulous vantage points in the city! Located on the West Side of Midtown Manhattan, it is close to Chelsea and Penn Station.
In New York, you want to see everything. Skyscrapers are just the thing, because all you have to do is climb to higher ground to see more! And as the Empire State Building or a helicopter ride are more likely to torpedo your city break budget, here are some viewpoints that are just as spectacular, but less popular with tourists and more respectful of your wallet. Start with The Edge, a fairly recent sky deck.

A cinematic view of Times Square
Located at 714 Seventh Avenue, you couldn't ask for a better location. As you can see, the bay window of the Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel restaurant overlooks Times Square, a godsend for those who love this crossroads straddling Broadway and its never-ending excitement. To lunch or dine here is to be at the show all the time. What's more, the establishment boasts one of the most coveted terraces in the USA. A rather expensive hotel to spend the night in. But coming here for a drink or a meal is definitely within your means. And a memorable experience.
Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel 4*
The rooms and bar-restaurant of this superb 4-star hotel offer breathtaking views over Times Square!Roosevelt Island cable car
It's been there for ages, yet tourists know little about it. The Roosevelt Island Tram links Manhattan Island to Roosevelt Island, and more precisely to Tramplaza (corner of 60th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan) and the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge. It runs alongside the bridge and its metal architecture, which makes it look like the Brooklyn Bridge, while weaving its way between the buildings. It's an experience worthy of a futuristic city inspired by the world of steampunk. By taking this cable car, you can fly over a piece of Manhattan for nothing (the price is included in your MetroCard).
Did you know that you can get inside the head of the Statue of Liberty?
Yes, you can visit the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island. You get there by shuttle bus, then climb under the dress of the imposing lady. Her head has narrow windows in the crown of the statue, through which you can still stick your head. You can then discover Ellis Island, its neighbour and the comings and goings of the port.
